After an 11-day fight to survive corona virus, pioneer San Angelon Jean Guthrie Ryon, 97, passed away January 4, 2021. Born September 7, 1923 in Taylor, Texas her parents, Pauline “Polly” Guthrie and Henry Sidney Guthrie moved to San Angelo in 1928. After attending local schools, Jean attended TCU for two years and then began her career in journalism as Society Editor of the Standard Times. Soon thereafter she was recruited by GT&E (later Verizon) where she retired as a senior executive in 1987. She is survived by her brother, Henry “Bub”/“Tex” Guthrie, 91, and his wife, Clare, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Other survivors include nephews Henry “Reb” (Cathy) and Bruce Guthrie and grandniece, Sarah Jean Guthrie of Los Angeles and step-grandson David James, Florida. She will be greatly missed by her relatives and many close friends including Dory Robb and Bob Kavisic.
