Jerry Barr posted this message to his friends about a year ago. He was born in Abilene, Texas on January 30, 1958 to James and Wanza Barr, and went to be with the Lord on March 19, 2016, having lived a life of joy, laughter, kindness, and sorrow.
He loved baseball, golf, football, his friends, cats, and the band Shinedown. He lived in gratitude that his teenage love had returned to his life in middle age. Patti always made him laugh and took care of him. He accepted his health limitations with the wisdom of the one who has received grace from our Lord.
Jerry was an outstanding athlete who graduated from Central High School in 1976. Known as ‘The Dough Boy’ and ‘Jerry Bear’ by Patti, he lettered in baseball all three years and received the Nathan’s Award his senior year. He played running back for the Bobcats. He attended Angelo State University, and pledged Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He is remembered for being a good friend with a big heart, and a shy and fun guy with a sweet smile.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his brother James Barr and wife Itzaga of Frisco, Texas; and nephew, Anthony Barr.
A memorial service celebrating his life is at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23rd in Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to your favorite charity.
