Joe Charles Crawford, 69, of San Angelo, Texas, beloved husband and best friend of Cathy (Morgan) Crawford for over 40 years, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on June 20, 2013.
Joe was born in Baird, Texas to Vernon and Gladys (Rogers) Crawford on June 3, 1944. He attended public school in Clyde and Abilene, Texas. By the age of 16 he had lost both of his parents and a sister, Inez.
Joe worked hard from a very early age to build a successful career as a well respected heavy equipment diesel mechanic. His dedication and hard work allowed him to provide well for his household and to help friends and family in times of need. He had many longtime customers, many of whom became close friends.
Joe's real passion was fishing, hunting, and camping. He passed this love along to his children and grandchildren. He was known as a man of few words who lead by quiet example.
Besides his wife Cathy, Joe is survived by his daughter, Carole and her husband David Simmons and their children, Michael, Matthew and Meredith as well as his son David and his wife Amy (Ayers) Crawford and their children, Emily and Ely; all of San Angelo. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Magill and his wife Cheryl, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
Pallbearers will be Rex Reed, Todd Schwertner, Michael Simmons, Matthew Simmons, Eric Morris, and Jason Morris.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the physicians and staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center as well as Hospice of San Angelo, including special nurse Cindy Baca.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 23rd from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Johnson's Funeral Home. Services will be Monday, June 24th at 10:00am at Johnson's Funeral Home with burial to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
