Dr. John Gregory (Greg) Jefferies, of San Angelo, TX, passed away on Sunday, July 3rd. He was born on December 29, 1954 in Eunice, Louisiana to Crofton Vaughn Jefferies and Vertis Jefferies Simpson. Greg attended Northeast High School of North Little Rock, Arkansas and graduated in the class of 1972. He later went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Arkansas in 1976 and a Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston in 1980.
Greg then began his career in optometry in San Angelo, TX working for Royal Optical in the Sunset Mall until establishing his personal practice, Eyes Only, in 1994. Greg married Vicki Jefferies on July 23, 1982. Dr. Jefferies is preceded in death by his father, Crofton Vaughn Jefferies and sister, Jan Jefferies Singer. Greg is survived by his wife, Vicki, and their five children: James Jefferies, John Jefferies, Randye Dunlap, Leigh Paille and Carrie Ledet, his mother, Vertis Jefferies Simpson, brother-in-law, J. Randy Hughes, sister-in-law, Belinda Hughes, nieces, Kelly Singer and Kelley Hughes, nephew, J. Andrew Hughes along with grandsons: Luke Ledet, Trey Baker, Clayton Hill and Jarrett Hill.
Greg was a proud member of the Southland Baptist Church Choir, Twin Mountain Tonesmen, San Angelo Chamber Singers and The Singing Men of West Texas. Dr. Jefferies had a passion for music, reading, history and Arkansas Razorback sports. Greg will always be remembered for his beautiful bass voice, love of sharing music with others and finding a creative way to incorporate humor into a situation.
The family visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 pm on Friday, July 8th at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 9th, at Southland Baptist Church with burial to follow at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation to Southland Baptist Church Choir. The family would also like to thank Howard County EMS, Shannon AirMed1, and the healthcare professionals at Shannon Hospital.
