Joy Larue Fletcher Lacy was born in Miles, Texas on December 19, 1930 to the late Robert Lee and Lola Belle Wilson Fletcher. She was greeted at heaven’s gate on Sunday morning, May 5, 2013 by her loving parents, and her loving parents by marriage, John and Clara Lacy.
Joy married Dalton Christian Lacy at the Miles Methodist Parsonage on June 17, 1948. During the early years of their marriage they lived with Clara Lacy, then moved ¼ mile away, where they lived the remainder of their lives together, farming and raising their family, with the love and support of their parents, who were actively involved in their lives and the lives of all the children. Joy was always ready in the background to support Dalton’s farming by pulling a trailer, running to town for a part, or carrying food and drinks and workers to the field.
Joy graduated from Miles High School in 1948, and worked at the Raley Crescent Drug Store in Miles during high school. She was a loving and busy mother to their six children from 1949 until the last child left home in the early 1980s. She was always ready to help in any way as a room mother, car pool driver to the many sports events and club meetings of the children, or whatever needs arose. Her kitchen stayed busy from morning to night, and through the years she always welcomed drop in guests who frequently stopped by for an impromptu visit over a cup of coffee and a snack, or a quick and lively game of bridge or dominos. No matter the day or time, they were always happy to visit their friends and family. These rich years of family commitment were also seasoned with Joy’s involvement with the Texas Historical Society, the San Angelo A & M Mother’s Club, PTA, and the Miles Methodist Church.

After Glow
I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one,
I’d like to leave an afterfglow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
And bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
Of happy memories that I leave,
When life is done.
