

Joyce Nell Sparks Burdett passed away on December 20, 2014, in San Angelo, Texas. The Family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Monday, December 22, 2014 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. The Service will be held at 9:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Benson officiating. The Graveside service will be 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the Sparks Memorial Cemetery in Cline, Texas.
Joyce was born on March 26, 1934, on a ranch east of Vance, Texas, to John Allen and Cora Minnie Sparks. She graduated from Uvalde High School, Uvalde, Texas.
Joyce married Albert Rush Burdett in Lovington, New Mexico, on June 6, 1951. Of the marriage, two children were born: Wanda Burdett Stewart and Sparks Rush Burdett.
Joyce worked for the telephone company in Midland, Texas; the San Angelo Medical and Surgical Clinic and the Women’s Clinic in San Angelo, Texas; and as a secretary at Fannin Elementary School in San Angelo, where she retired in 1996.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Albert Burdett; daughter, Wanda Burdett Stewart of San Angelo, Texas; and son, Sparks Burdett and wife, Beverly, of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren, Teena Ferguson Plona and husband, Shawn, of Killeen, Texas; Michael Woolley of Haslet, Texas; Nikki Leigh Burdett of Phoenix, Arizona; and Krissy Stewart Cowley and fiancé, Bobby Bell, of San Angelo and John Burdett and wife Jennifer, of Odessa, Texas; and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Josephine Lumsden, Patsy Hicks, and Faye Allen; and her brother, George Robert Sparks.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Royce Sparks and John T. Sparks.
