Maria Angela Levario, 66 of Big Lake, went home to be with her heavenly Father on Sunday, January 29, 2012. She was born on May 31, 1945 in Del Rio, Texas to Emilia Martinez and the late Maximo Martinez, Sr.
Maria was preceded in death by her father Maximo Martinez, Sr., former husband, Anastacio Romero, Sr., brother Maximo Martinez, Jr. and great-grandson Kaleb Jay Romero Evans.
She is survived by her mother Emilia Martinez; her siblings: Vicente Martinez & wife Elia, Joe Martinez & wife Dolores, Juan Martinez & wife Linda, Angel Martinez, Felipe Martinez, Martin Martinez & wife Laura, Eufemia Garcia, Lupe Rodriguez & husband Armando and Rafaela Orozco. Her children: Delia Patino & husband Rene from Big Lake, TX; Delma Romero from San Angelo, TX; Fermin Romero from Beaumont, TX; Delfina Romero & Rocky Thompson from Big Lake, TX; Anastacio Romero Jr. & Nikki from San Angelo, TX; Debbie Romero-Hinojosa & husband Jorge from Big Lake, TX; and Monica Levario & fiancé Will Jones from Midland, TX. She was blessed with 19 grand-children and 15 great-grandchildren.
After 20 plus years as a dietician at the Reagan County Hospital/Care Center, Maria retired to enjoy her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren. She was very supportive of her children and was sure to make it to every basketball game, football game, tennis match, track meet, and any other sporting event her kids were active in. You could always find Mary in the stands rooting for her children and the other Reagan County Owls. She took great pride in gardening, enjoyed being outside working in her yard and tending to her garden which won several Garden of the Week awards. She proudly volunteered her time and ability for sewing and baking to Friends for Hope by baking goods and sewing teddy bears for the children. Whenever Maria was called upon to fill a need, whether it was, baking, cooking, sewing or gardening, she would gladly offer her talents & abilities with no hesitation whatsoever. She was a woman with a heart of gold and when asked, and if it was within her ability, she would accomplish what was asked of her. Maria’s passion and talent for baking led to many requests for birthday, wedding and Quinceañera cakes from, not only family members, but whoever was lucky enough to have sampled any of her recipes. And although many have tried to mimic her recipes, very few have succeeded.
As our cousin eloquently said, “Today we mourn the departure of a very beautiful and special woman. Mary was called by our Father to come home. She will forever be missed and treasured in our lives. Instead of tears of sadness, allow tears of joy because we know she is in a much better place. A grandmother, mother, daughter, sister and friend. The family lost a dear sweet member yet we gained another angel for the family. Recognize these days as blessed and happy ones. Not of heartache. Our Heavenly Father now welcomes His daughter with open arms. Cherish your time. Mary is now healthy, happy and at peace. She smiles upon us all with love and grace because she knows that a great legacy will continue with her family.”
Special thanks to the staff of Reagan County Care Center and the staff of Hospice of San Angelo, Dr. Joseph Sudolcan, Dr. Williams and Dr. Paul Brown for all their patience and caring for our beloved mother.
