Our sweet Mom, Marie Rowoldt, lit up heaven with her presence when she passed on Sunday, July 16, 2023. She told her family many times that she was going to live to be a 100 just to aggravate us but fell short of that goal and passed at the age of 92. It wasn’t for the lack of fighting as she was the strongest woman with a strong will and desire to live for her family. She had an unwavering faith in God, was the foundation of our family, extremely witty, was very loved and will be missed terribly.
Marie was born on October 28, 1930, in Bristol, TX to Oscar and Anna Lewis Bentley. On July 25, 1955, she married Allan Henry Rowoldt. Allan and Marie were married 59 years and 10 months. They were blessed with five children that they raised in Robert Lee, TX before moving to San Angelo, TX. Although we grieve her loss, we take comfort knowing that she has reunited with Allan who she missed so much.
Marie worked various jobs throughout her life, but childcare was her joy. Her hands were never idle as she was either crocheting, crafting, stuffing Easter eggs and other projects for the church, baking or as she would say “piddling around the house” which meant she was outside cleaning the windows. She could work circles around most.
Family was her life, and she would proudly boast about her 5 children,15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Besides being a loving and devoted Mom, she loved being Grandma, Granny and Candy Grandma. She was involved in everything her children and grandchildren participated in and was their biggest supporter. She was always there to lend a helping hand with whatever we needed. Her ultimate pleasure was entertaining family and friends, decorating for the holidays and hosting parties. She would spend weeks putting together a beautiful Christmas village at Christmas. Marie was happiest when her home was full of all her family. Everyone was welcome in her home, and no one left hungry! She was the definitely the hostess with the most-est!
Marie loved playing all kinds of card games but especially loved playing farkle, spades, dominos, poker, and Phase 10. That is just what you did at Grandmas house from sunup to sundown. She was especially fond of playing dominos and spades with her boys, Bill and Tim. Her other passion was shopping with her girls, going to craft shows, and garage selling. She had a love for shoes, purses and Alfred Dunner clothes and had a closet full of them.
She also loved to cook, bake, and make homemade candy for the holidays. She was known for her homemade rolls, chicken & dumplings, German chocolate cake, fudge and her full breakfast with biscuits and gravy. Other hobbies included watching or listening to ASU football, softball and baseball, little league baseball world series and Hallmark movies.
She not only set the standard on work ethics but with serving others, finding joy in everything, living life to the fullest and most importantly honoring God. She had a servant’s heart and personified what was right in this world. She was the first to offer help in times of need, she was witty and didn’t hold back with her thoughts. She kept us wondering and a little nervous about what she was going to say! She still had us laughing until the end.
There will be an enormous void in our family now that she is gone but our memories and the stories, we all have to share will bring us much joy and her legacy will live on.
