Martha Kirby

She was born February 20, 1923, to Melvin and Edith Thompson and lived much of her early years near Miles, Texas. She married J. O. Kirby in San Angelo on April 17, 1946. A devoted housewife and mother, Mrs.Kirby was a longtime member of the Southgate Church of Christ. In December, 2002, medical conditions required her to remain near her daughters in DeSoto, Texas.

Mrs. Kirby was preceded in death by her husband; John Odell Kirby, daughter; Martha Louise King, brother; David Thompson and one sister; Mary Helen Booth.

Survivors include; daughter and son-in-law Wanda and John Scogin of De Soto, Tx., grandchildren; Melissa Scogin of Dallas, Tx., Bryant Scogin and wife Betsy of Frisco, Tx., Courtney Watson and husband James of Grand Prairie, Tx., Cathryn King of Tyler, Tx., great-grandchildren are Connor, Hunter and Brenner Watson, Carter, Spencer and Tucker Scogin, brothers ;Charles, Lawrence, Leonard, Robert, Ralph and Harold Thompson, sister; Ruth Spruel, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday March 11, 2011 at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
