

Mary Joy Jameson passed away on September 15, 2018 in Sterling City, Texas surrounded by her family and staff of Sterling County Nursing Home. Joy was born on February 04, 1932 to Oscar and Prebble Padgett in Tyler, Texas. She attended and graduated from Madisonville high school. Joy also graduated with a bachelor's degree from Hardin Simmons University to be a teacher. She went on to shape the young minds at Water Valley, Aspermont and Old Glory during her teaching career. During her lifetime she also was one of the first female Jockeys in Texas and also won the 1969 Championship in Barrel Racing. Her biggest passions and hobbies were Barrel racing and horse training. Joy also loved to cook and had a great love for all animals. In her retirement years, Joy and husband Burl would settle down in Water Valley, Texas where they would attend church at 1st Baptist Church of Water Valley every week. Joy was preceded in death by her parents; O.M. and Prebble Padgett, Brothers; O.M. Jr. and Tommy Padgett, sisters; Irene Whitmire and Gloria Rice. Joy is survived by her husband Burl Jameson, sons; Joe Jameson and wife Angela, Tom Jameson and wife Diane, granddaughters; Shannon Jameson, Keegan Olivan, Kimberly Jameson and Great-grandchildren Kyle Hope and Dylan Adair. Joy will be available for viewing at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral services for Joy will be at the 1st Baptist Church of Water Valley on Tuesday September 18, 2018 at 1:00PM with a graveside to follow in the Water Valley Cemetery.
