Funeral services will be held at the Johnson Street Church of Christ at 1:30 PM on Saturday, September 11, 2021.
Mary Nell was born on March 25, 1926 in Levelland, Texas to Ingle and Mary Lee (Brown) Lea. Mary Nell graduated from Levelland high school. She attended Texas Tech University where she received a degree in education. She taught high school English for two years before moving to Washington DC to work for congressman George H Mahon. That’s how she met the love of her life, Bryan Mahon, who was Congressman Mahon’s nephew. They were married on June 30, 1952 and were blissfully and happily married for 63 years before Bryan‘s death in 2015.
Mary Nell loved music. She loved to sing and play the piano. She loved to sew and quilt. She taught second grade Bible class at Johnson Street Church of Christ for many many years. She and Bryan were members at Johnson Street since moving to San Angelo in 1953. She was a member of several civic organizations and enjoyed volunteering at the Shannon hospital gift shop.
Mary Nell was preceded in death by her husband Bryan, her son Myron Mahon and his wife Mary Mahon. Also, her son-in-law, Joe Bullock.
She is survived by her son Monte Mahon and wife Becky, and her daughter Emily Bullock. She is also survived by seven grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Kaylea (Mahon) Andrews and husband Zach, John Mahon, Wade Mahon and wife Kaci, Ryan Mahon, Chad Mahon and wife Mindy, Tyler Bullock and wife Kim and Taren (Bullock) Lowe and husband Patrick. She also has nine precious great-grandchildren: Rowen Mahon, Grae and Beck Mahon, Krew, Kade, Cam, Cross and Kove Bullock and Wesley Lowe.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Allison House, which is part of the Baptist Retirement Community, for their tender care of their mother during her final weeks. Memorials may be given to Rust Street Ministries or a charity of your choice.
