

Melvin passed peacefully at his home on December 02. He was born on July 29, 1927 to May and Tillman Harbin in Olden, Texas. Melvin is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 69 years, Bobbye Wymer Harbin. He enlisted in the Texas State Guard at age 15 and joined the U.S. Navy at age 17. He served in the Asia-Pacific Theater during WWII. Melvin graduated from Baylor University in 1952 and went to work for Shamrock Oil & Gas Company.
Bobbye and Melvin were active in Park Heights Baptist for over 20 years where Melvin was a Deacon and teacher.
Melvin was in the Real Estate and Insurance business for over 35 plus years. He became President of the San Angelo Association of Life Underwriters, honored as their Man of the Year. He also qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table and served as a Director of the Texas Life Underwriters Association. Melvin has gifted his Presidental scrapbook to Angelo State University.
Moving to Brownwood in 1975 he helped establish the Pecan Valley Life Underwriter chapter serving as President; on the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees and Lions Club. He was honored as Jaycee of the Year and served as the President of the Brownwood Noon Lions Club.
Melvin & Bobbye moved back to San Angelo in 1998 and joined Glen Meadows Baptist church. Melvin has always enjoyed poetry and sharing poems with his Men’s Prayer Breakfast and Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Bobbye and his children, Carol and Joe Layne of Plano; Terri Harbin of Dallas; Randy and Jean Harbin, Jenice and David Mazur of San Angelo. Grandchildren Matthew and Briana Mazur of Fort Worth; Mitchell Mazur of Austin; Christina Lyons of San Angelo. One brother, Kenneth and Norma Harbin of Kennedale. His parents and two brothers Terrell and Stanley preceded him.
Visitation will be December 5 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo. Church services will be at Glen Meadows Baptist Church, December 6, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity, or Meals for the Elderly (310 E.
