Ricardo "Richard" Mata Padilla was called home surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Richard was born on December 23, 1958 in San Angelo, Texas to Porfirio and Francisca Padilla. He was a lifetime resident of San Angelo. He graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1978. Richard was known for his strong work ethic. He worked many years as a laborer for Aylor Fence Company and SAISD. He worked the last 11 yrs for Angelo State University in Facilities Management.
The most important thing to Richard was his love of family and friends. He was a beloved brother, uncle and friend. His true loves were his many nieces and nephews. No matter what the time or occasion, Richard always made the time to attend their games, concerts, parties, or shows. He was everyone's biggest sports fan. He made it a point to see his family every day, especially when it was time to eat! He was the first invited dinner guest because he never missed a party or a free meal. Richard was a die hard Texas Longhorn fan even teaching the little ones how to make the "HOOK 'EM HORNS" sign. He also enjoyed taking time off to travel, ready at a days notice. Off he went on road trips to California, Florida, Washington, New York City, Washington D.C. and so many more. He would catch a cruise ship to Alaska or the Mexican Playa. He also enjoyed his weekend trips to ride roller coasters at theme parks or eating all day at Fiesta. Richard knew the true value of friendship and how to offer a helping hand. He was a man of his word.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Porfirio and Francisca Padilla, his brothers Ruben Padilla and Gilbert Padilla and a nephew, Jonathan Rodriguez. He is survived by his sisters and brothers Gloria Rodriguez and husband Raymond of Saginaw, Oralia Gonzales and husband Joe, Joe Padilla, Dora Padilla Mendez, David Padilla and wife Ana, Alfredo Padilla and wife Mary all of San Angelo. In addition, 22 nieces and nephews, 35 great- nieces and great-nephews, plus four great great-nieces and nephews who he loved as his own including his only Godson Gavin Castro.
Rosary service is at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3rd in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. A celebration mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church Thursday, February 4th at 10 a.m. with Fr. Joey Faylona officiating. Internment will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. The family would like to especially thank the doctors and staff at Shannon Medical Center and all our church families for their support and prayers during this difficult time.
"My love for my family has no limits. There is nothing that would keep me away from them. I look for them and they are there. I was never alone. When I leave this world I will not be alone. Do not cry for me, cause I am home."
