

Robert Michael Ford, 65, of San Angelo Texas, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, from complications of ALS. Mike was born on March 22, 1949, in San Angelo to Bob G. Ford and Bette Logan Ford. He graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1967 where he was on the Bobcat State Championship Football Team. After graduation, he attended Rice University where he also played on the Owl football team. He returned to San Angelo in the 70s and joined his father in the construction and property management business. He married Betty Isabel on November 27, 1981 and his beloved daughter, Elizabeth was born on July 3, 1987. Services is at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at the First Christian Church of San Angelo located at 29 North Oakes with the Reverend Ben Hubert officiating. A reception celebrating Mike's life will be held at the Coney Island Cafe located at 212 Chadbourne Street in San Angelo, Texas. Later, Mike started his own company R .M .Ford Construction, Inc. He worked throughout West Texas and New Mexico. More recently, in San Angelo he constructed Pinkies, SKG Engineering and remodeled the Super Mercado. Mike served on numerous boards and community service organizations, including Crime Stoppers and the Zoning Board of Appeals. He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of San Angelo. Mike had many hobbies and interests including hunting, camping and fishing, particularly in New Mexico, Colorado, Canada and the Pecos, Rio Grande rivers with friends and family. He enjoyed his Coffee group at Mr. T's, the Monday Chinese Lunch Bunch, the Tuesday Poker Game, the gin crowd at the San Angelo Country Club, the Porch Puppies at Troy's, and his Rice teammates, just to name a few. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Betty; daughter Elizabeth Ford and son-in-law Will Tallmon and granddaughter Memphis Belle Ford- Tallmon of San Angelo; brothers Steve Ford and wife Cyndi of Houston and Bill Ford and wife Vicki of Christoval; sisters Mary Ford and husband Brian Gaisford of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Carol Rylander of Austin; and nine nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Ray Huntsucker and wife Deborah of San Angelo, Dave Isabel and wife Cindy of Blue Springs, Mo. and Aaron Isabel and wife Gay Marie of San Antonio. Also, deeply appreciated are his long time employees, Larry and Terry Harding,Donnie and David Hughes and Rhonda Lee and his fellow construction colleagues. He was preceded in death by his grandparents T.R. and Willie Logan, parents, aunts, uncles and sister Diane. Mike's passions in life were first his love for his family, his dear friends and his talent in cooking. Competing in cook-offs from barbeque to chili and smoking briskets for family, friends and church were high on his agenda. Mike was a BIG MAN with an even bigger heart. He loved all of his family and friends, and especially his girls, Betty, Elizabeth and Memphis Belle.
