Rob was born in Austin, TX on September 3, 1954 to Robert Donald Masters and Laura Ann Lentz Masters. Born into a military family with sister Laura and brothers Steve and Walt, Rob grew up traveling and exploring the posts his father was assigned to in Germany and Europe, Ft. Benning, GA, Ft, Ord, NuUlm, CA and Ft. Sheridan, IL.
As a military “Brat”, rob attended 15 schools before graduating from San Angelo Central in 1973. Rob’s father took the family camping in National Forrest’s, experienced ghost towns while taking side trips to explore such attractions as the Petrified Forrest and walked beaches on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Austin, TX was considered home when his father was on unaccompanied tours in Vietnam and Thailand.
After, working as a graphic photographer at the College of Pharmacy at UH and attending classes in Architecture and Interior design in Houston for a few years Rob came back to San Angelo. In 1989 Rob returned to work at San Angelo State School. During the next 8 years he went from being an Aide on the Adult Mentally Retarded Men’s floor to the position of Supervisor. Rob did his job well and made many friends among the staff as well as the clients.
In 2004 Rob returned to his pursuit of a lifelong dream when he followed his love, the study of art through the Studio system. This allowed him to explore and grow in the mediums of computers, graphics, sculpture, painting, ceramics, and print making. His past experiences enabled him to bring unique and novel ideas to his classes. Rob fulfilled his dream when he graduated from ASU in May 2004.
Rob was preceded in death by his grandparents Jimmy and Mautine Masters, his father Robert Donald Masters and niece Danielle Masters.
He is survived by his mother Laura Anna Masters, sister Laura Kit Martin and husband Jake and their daughters Lisa and Jennifer; his older brother Steven Kimble Masters and wife Beth and their daughters Stephenie and Kimberly, as well as his younger brother Walter Kip Masters and wife Tammie and their daughters Ashley and J’Ann.
