On my 17th birthday I joined the Army. I served almost 3yrs with the 82nd Air Borne Division as a Recon Scout. I deployed to the Dominican Republic in May 1965. There I earned my Black Sergeant Stripes. While in the Dominican Republic I re-enlisted for South Asia in Viet Nam with the 173rd Air Borne Brigade. I made Staff E6 and served in a Reconnaissance unit for one year. I reported to the 101st Air Borne Division. There I earned my Master Parachutist Wings. Then I was deployed to Viet Nam to the same scout section that I served in my first year there.
I deployed back to the United States and accepted my discharge from the Army in 1968.
