

Sadie Jane Harkness Smith went to meet her Jesus on January 1st, 2015 at Meadow Creek Nursing Center after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease.A "Celebration of Life" is to be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 6th, 2015 in the Chapel at Johnson's Funeral Home with the Reverend Ben G. Hubert of First Christian Church officiating. Interment will take place immediately following the services at Fairmont Cemetery under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home. Jane was born on February 2nd, 1932 to William and Bonnie (Ball) Harkness in Texarkana, Texas. She married Dr. O. Paul Smith, Jr. on June 26, 1951 in Texarkana, Texas and was a dedicated teacher throughout her life. Before coming to San Angelo in the early seventies, she taught from Alaska to Mississippi and in many cities throughout Texas. Jane was passionate about teaching and especially devoted to helping children with learning disabilities, dyslexia in particular. It was because of Jane's dedication and love that many young students at Edison, Glenn and Water Valley grew to realize their special gifts and their value as human beings.Jane was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Harkness, Jr. Jane is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Dr. O. Paul Smith Jr.; her daughter Rebecca Ratliff with husband Don and grandchildren Sarah Duerstine, Clint Rawls and Brandon Rawls along with one very special great-grandson Thomas Duerstine; her daughter Margaret Wimpee with husband Marc and grandchildren Megan Trottier and Zach Wimpee; her son Dr. Stephen Smith and grandchildren Abigail Smith and Graham Smith; and her daughter Bonnie Smith with partner Suzie. She is also survived by siblings Bonnie Marsh of New Jersey and David Harkness of Tennessee along with numerous nieces and nephews.Memorials may be made to the James Phillips Williams Memorial Foundation and Learning Center, 403 W.
