Bill Lane was born the first male child in the West Texas boom town of Texon in Reagan County, June 20, 1925. He served in the Navy during WWII and returned to Austin where he graduated with a business degree from University of Texas. In 1951 he married his lifelong love Wanda Lea Rawls. They lived in San Angelo, Texas, and had two sons and later moved to Houston. He had a successful business career in the transportation industry in which he was the co- founder of two companies, Lane Brothers Trucking in San Angelo and Lane Freight Systems in Houston. He later moved to his Ranch in Barksdale, Texas where he ranched for many years. He is survived by his sons Bob and Rick, daughters in law, Deb and Kim, grandson, Will, step grandchildren, Kacee, Ryan and Jordan.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. at Johnson’s Funeral Home prior to the service. The Funeral Service will be 1:00 P.M., Friday, August 24, 2012 at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Bend, Oregon in mid-September, TBA.
