It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Abel Lozano Rodriguez, who departed this life on September 14, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born to Abel G. and Armandina Rodriguez, Abel was a long-time resident of San Antonio graduating from Fox Tech High School in 1968. Abel proudly served his country and community with unwavering dedication throughout his life. He joined The United States Navy during the Vietnam War and later continued with the United States Air Force Reserves. Following his military service, he joined the San Antonio Police Department, where he served honorably for 30 years before retiring. After his time with SAPD, he maintained his annual firearm qualification, a testament to his commitment to excellence and professionalism.
A man of deep faith and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Abel lived a life of service. He was an active member of several organizations, including the San Antonio Police Officers Association (SAPOA), the San Antonio Hispanic Officers Association (SAPHOA), the San Antonio Fire and Police Pensioners Association and supported the SAPD Benevolent fund.
In retirement, he found joy in simple pleasures—fishing, traveling to his favorite vacation spots like Louisiana, Corpus Christi, Las Vegas, and taking cruises with loved ones. Yet, it was in his acts of service that his legacy shines brightest.
He never missed an opportunity to show love—whether it was standing in line to buy holiday tamales for his family and friends, supporting every school fundraiser his grandchildren brought his way, or delivering meals to the NISD Athletics Department during the holidays. During Fiesta, he was known to cook for his fellow officers, and when he could no longer cook, he still showed up to wash dishes. He remembered over 30 birthdays every year, making sure each card was hand delivered with love and care. Above all, he never hesitated to drop everything to help his children or grandchildren.
He was a devoted caregiver to his own father, Grandpa Abel, for many years—faithfully serving until his father’s passing at the age of 95.
Abel is survived by his children: Abel Jason (Diane) Rodriguez, Elliot Isaac Rodriguez, and Leslie Ann (Mark) Howard; his former wife, Dahlia Gonzalez, mother of his children; and his loving long-time companion, Gloria Munoz. He is also survived by his siblings, George Rodriguez and Sylvia Gonzalez; his cousins, Mary Louise Castañeda and Adelaide (Lolli) Robinson; his beloved grandchildren: Jason (Christina), Justin (Brittany), Kaitlin (Daniel), Emri, Josh, Gabe, Evelyn, Jack, Liliana, and Amelia; and great-grandchildren: Brandon, Marcus, Taylor, Nora, and Olivia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abel G. and Armandina Rodriguez, and by his beloved son, Gabriel Adam Rodriguez.
Pallbearers will include Abel Jason Rodriguez, Elliot Isaac Rodriguez, Mark Howard, Justin Rodriguez, Josh Rodriguez, Gabriel Rodriguez, and Jack Howard.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Funeraria Del Angel Treviño Funeral Home, located at 226 Cupples Rd, San Antonio, TX 78237. Doors will open at 8:00 a.m., with the service beginning promptly at 9:30 a.m.

His life mission was to serve others—and he fulfilled it with humility, strength, and unconditional love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
