Burial will be next to her husband, James Eric McDonald, in the family plot at the Green Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. McDonald was born on May 15th, 1919, in Lufkin, Texas. She spent most of her young years in the Pearland area. She graduated from Webster High School. She married James Eric McDonald of Austin in 1937 and they moved to Houston and then to Beaumont. Their next move was to the Rio Grande Valley to the town of La Feria.
Mr. McDonald became a citrus and cotton farmer. They were married for 49 years. She was foremost a homemaker and mother and was widely known for her cakes and pies.
She, also, had a knack for duplicating, at home, something she had tasted at a restaurant. At the request of her friends, she put together a pamphlet, Helps and Hints from McDonald's Kitchen, of recipes for life and for cooking. She included her famous Chocolate Pudding Cake and her Christmas
Apple Salad.
She always enjoyed reading and gladly accepted a job in the reading lab at Roosevelt Jr. High in La Feria. She worked there for 15 years. She was a member of the La Feria First Baptist Church and president of her Sunday School class for several years. When she moved to San Antonio, she moved her membership to Castle Hills First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Eric McDonald, her parents, Bertie and Charles H. DuVall and her brother Jess Willard DuVall.
She is survived by her daughter, Dovie Ann and husband, Ross of Rosenberg, her daughter, Anita Gay and husband, Richard of San Antonio, her nephews: Charles R. DuVall and wife of Pasadena, Roy E. McDonald and wife of George Town, Robert McDonald and wife of San Benito, Eric Lee McDonald and wife of Houston and niece, Madalyn Cooke, and husband of The Woodlands. She is, also, survived by several great nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by her faithful caregivers, Rose, Shirley, Marisa and Liza. The family wishes to thank them for the tender care given to their loved one. They would also like to give special thanks to Alamo Hospice and Brenda, Staffing Coordinator, with Caring Companions for their care and attention in her final days. She will be dearly missed by her pet Chihuahua, Honey, who rarely left her side day or night.
