

Adela Muniz Garza 88, of Whitney passed away peacefully in her home on June 4, 2017. She lived in the White Bluff Resort community since the early nineties. She resided there with her husband Raymond Robles Garza who passed away in 2006.
Adela was born on June 2, 1929 in Charlotte, Texas to Ramon and Maria Engracia (Galindo) Muniz. She married Raymond Robles Garza from San Antonio, Texas. Adela was a homemaker and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, & friend to all who knew her. Prior to living in Whitney, she traveled extensively with her husband, who worked as an Army Civil Service Engineer for the Department of Defense. After moving from San Antonio, she lived in Okinawa (Japan), Coventry, Rhode Island, and Harker Heights, Texas.
Adela had several interests, which included traveling, cooking, gardening/floral arrangement, reading, sewing and caring for those she loved deeply. At heart, she was a true Texan who loved bluebonnets, pecans, and watermelon, but also enjoyed her tropical island experiences, especially the waves in Guam. She was a strong woman with a deep faith in the Lord and she believed tremendously in the power of prayer and miracles. Her sweetness, smile, generosity, and kindness are those attributes that will be remembered and truly missed by so many who loved her.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Raymond Robles Garza; daughter, Rebecca Garza-Mattia; her brothers, Robert, Arturo, and Gilbert Muniz; her sisters Minerva Cantu, Dina Lopez, and Mary Ann Muniz.
Survivors are her children, Irene Garza DeVerna (Robert) of Charlestown, Rhode Island, Raymond Garza (Brie) of Haltom City, Texas, and Kathy Garza Dixon (Brian) of Knox, Indiana, and son-in-law Robert Mattia of Derry, New Hampshire. Her surviving siblings are Richard Muniz (Lupe) of Hurst, Texas and Esther Vasquez (Richard) of Cedar Hill, Texas. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Christopher DeVerna (Dana), Michael DeVerna, Tyrell Sears (Ashley), Andrew Garza (Ali), Cody Sears, Allie Garza, Kyle Sears, and Amelia Garza-Mattia. In addition, she is survived by 4 great grandchildren, Brady & Taylor DeVerna, and Myla & Theo Sears, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and caregivers. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and personal care members of Divine Living and Bridgeway Health Services for the kindness extended to our Mother while in their care.
A Christian Service & Burial will take place in San Antonio, Texas. Arrangements have been made for a visitation from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday, June 18th. There will also be two services: the first service will be held on Sunday, June 18th at 7:00pm, and the other at 1:00pm on Monday, June 19th. Both services will be held at the Porter Loring Mortuary North located at 2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX 78232. Internment will occur at Fort Sam Houston's National Cemetery on Monday, June 19th at 2:30pm.
