Adele J. Sutton, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 31, 2013, at the age of 94. She was born in Newark, New Jersey, to parents Adam and Theophilia Jersets, on September 27, 1918. She witnessed many changes in her long life. Early childhood memories include watching the oil lamps being lit in Newark. During World War II she worked for the War Department, where she met her husband, Ralph J. Sutton. She loved to tell the story of her first impressions of San Antonio in 1947. Having grown up within a short distance of New York City, she was accustomed to the varied offerings of a large cosmopolitan environment. Much to her dismay, in Texas at that time, honky-tonks replaced night clubs and pizza was nowhere to be found. Adele will always be remembered for her friendly, outgoing personality and her dedication to her family. She made lasting friends wherever she went. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and worked many years for both Joske’s and Frost Bros. department stores, here in San Antonio. She especially enjoyed the years she volunteered for Santa Rosa Hospital, devoting many hours to work in their antique shop, where she could indulge her love of “junking.” Adele was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Ralph J. Sutton; sister, Mildred Repac; and brother, Joseph Jersets. She is survived by her children, Eleda Rains (Wade William), Mary Sue Sutton, and Adam R. Sutton (Judy) ; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A Graveside Service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Park, 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Rd., at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2013. The family would like to thank the caring professionals of Paramount Rehabilitation and Care Center for their tremendous help during this difficult time.
