He is preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro & Sylvestra Garay and his beloved wife, Mary Ann Garay of whom he was married to for 45 years.
He is survived by his children, Anna Marie Villela, Christopher Michael Garay, Christina Ann Garay and Melissa Ann Garay-Velasquez; grandchildren, Madalyn, Marilyn, Jailyn, Taylor, Lillian, Joshua, Maximus, John and Manuel.
Agapito retired from San Antonio Water System to enjoy his time with Mary Ann and his beloved grandkids. He worked his way up as a crew member, heavy equipment operator, crew leader, and eventually a Foreman. He would work long hard hours often overtime to make sure that his family was more than cared for. When he wasn’t working, he could always be found barbecuing and cheering on his beloved team, the Dallas Cowboys. A true fan, even through their losing years, he continued to be a supporter, decorating his home even during Christmas time in blue and white. When on the grill, any visiting friend of his kids, and eventually the grandchildren, would get the empty threat of being cooked or having their pets bar-b-qued. A running joke he had with himself, he would laugh as the kids screamed “Noooo!!”
Agapito also known as “Roy or Gap,” found peace and happiness with a fishing rod in one hand, a Schlitz in the other, and the sound of waves in the distance. Whether casting a line from the shore or soaking in the sun in Port Aransas, the ocean was where he felt most alive. He shared his love of fishing with his kids, friends, and grandkids.
On Saturday mornings he would often wake up the kids with the record player loudly to Paul Anka, or Elvis Presley, while serving a big breakfast. Sundays in the home were sacred—not just for football games, which he never missed, but also for family gatherings filled with great food, loud cheers, and even louder laughs.
He taught the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the joy of gathering together. His warm smile, easygoing nature, and love for life, made him a magnet for those all around him. He was always ready to lend a listening ear and never judged others and their situation. He always found a way to see the good in everything and everyone. He will be greatly missed by many who were lucky enough to know him.
