Alex "Bud" Krueger was born in San Antonio, Texas, at 12:18 am on New Year’s Day. He left us to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, at the age of 92, on Sunday, January 17, 2021. He was 92. Alex grew up working in the family business, San Antonio Machine and Supply Co. (SAMSCO), an ironworks and brass foundry established in San Antonio by his grandfather, Max Krueger, in 1899. He attended The University of Texas before joining the US Air Force, where he served his country flying B-29 Bombers while stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Upon discharge from the service, he returned to the family business and managed the Chris Craft dealership on West Ave. He met and married Ruth Marie Hess of San Antonio in 1953. They had three children - Alex G Krueger III, Chris J Krueger, and Karen M Krueger. Many a Sunday would find him with his children sailing on Woodlawn Lake or clowning around water skiing with his lifelong friend, Dr. Robert Spalten, on Lake McQueeny.
After the sale of SAMSCO, he transitioned to a sales career in the auto industry. First at Main Lincoln Mercury, and North Loop Volkswagen before moving on to Orsinger Buick. In 1976, he met and married Sarah Weedon Krueger. Their marriage resulted in a large, blended family of ten children, including his three and her seven: Susan Andress, Marti Lutich Reagan, William Bolch, Celia Tyler, Paul Bolch, Caleb (Al) Bolch, and Mary Chacon. In the following 37 years, that already large family grew to 30 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, who became the joy of their lives. Alex devoted his spare time to improving his golf game and raising money for civic projects as a member of The Kiwanis Club of San Antonio-Bexar which he had joined in 1965. He served as President of the Club for two terms. He also enjoyed working and hunting on the family ranch outside of Boerne.
Alex was preceded in death by his wife Sarah, parents, Alexander George Krueger Sr. and Augusta Florence Heubaum, his older sister, Maxine Krueger-Covert, and Sarah’s children Susan Andress and William Bolch. He is survived by his three children; Alex Krueger III, Chris Krueger, and Karen Krueger Caraway. Grandchildren; Alex Krueger IV (Jenny), Kate Krueger Moore (Jordan); Wesley Krueger, Brady Krueger; McKenna Caraway Waysman (Brodie) and Kevin Caraway. Great-grandchildren: Alex Krueger V; Adelyn Ruth Moore, Amelia Kay Moore; and Aliela Atkins Caraway along with Sarah's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made in his name to The Kiwanis Club of San Antonio-Bexar. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Porter Loring on McCullough. A private interment will be held at Mission Park South at a later date.
