

Alfonso A. Martinez, Jr., was born on November 21, 1945, in San Antonio, TX. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, St. Mary's University and a member of Tau Epsilon Chi TEX. He served in Vietnam as a member of 3rd Bn/38 Arty, US Army, during the North Vietnamese Tet Offensive of 1968. He was a supervisor with the US Customs and Border Protection at the Port of Galveston. After 33 years of Civil Service, he retired and moved back to San Antonio. After a heroic battle with cancer, Al joined our Lord and Savior on April 28, 2009. He was inspirational to all who knew him with his faith, humor, strength, determination and humility. He is preceded in death by his father Alfonso Martinez. He is survived by his mother Lucille Martinez; his loving wife of 40 years Socorro Cora Martinez; two daughters, Gina Murnane, husband Jim and grandson James Anthony, and Carla Riedl, husband Quentin and granddaughter Olivia; siblings, Carolyn Janik, Mary Louise and husband Jose Cantu, Roger and wife Yolanda Martinez, Elizabeth and husband John Chipinski, and many other family members and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Homero Garza, Al's brother-in-law, Dr. David Friedman, Dr. Ramon Reyes, Dr. Jaime Mayoral and all the other physicians and staff involved in his care.
