Alice C. De La Cruz

Alice Carvajal De La Cruz, age 93, beloved and beautiful wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away February 25, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born November 30, 1918 in San Antonio, Texas to Athos Perez Carvajal and Reynalda Leal Carvajal.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph Narro De La Cruz, with whom she spent 40 years, son James De La Cruz, brothers George Carvajal, Joe L. Carvajal, and James A. Carvajal.

Alice enjoyed the friendship of a multitude of friends cultivated from her involvement in various senior citizen social groups which allowed her to enjoy her love of music and dance. Always active and joyful, Alice formed lasting friendships. In her later years, she truly missed friendships and good times at her favorite spot, Mi Tierra Restaurant. She modeled poise, integrity, and incomparable ability to rise above adversity.

Alice is survived by her children, sons Robert and wife Ester and Joe and wife Linda; daughters Alice D. Garcia and Sylvia Sandoz. She is also survived by her loving and dedicated sister Mary Louise Vasconcellos and her grandchildren, Liza Garcia, Ann Garcia, Richard J. Garcia, Jr., Laura Navarijo, Michelle Sandoz, Robert De La Cruz, Jr., Claudine Meinhardt, Sylvia Hays, Melissa De La Cruz, Elizabeth De La Cruz, Jillian De La Cruz, and James De La Cruz, Jr; great grandchildren Marc, Ariana, Celeste, Elise, Alanis, Christian, Julianna, Jacob, Lauren, and Sarah filled her with great pride and joy.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough. Rosary to follow that same evening. A funeral procession will depart from the funeral home on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at 8:30 for a 9:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery No. 2.
