Alice Heebner Williamson Wood left our world early June 8, 2007 to join her husband in a heaven in which they both strongly believed. She was born February 11, 1924, in Philadelphia, PA and had been in declining health for some time.
Her formal education was interrupted by WWII when she married Harry Peterman Wood and began her life's work of raising five children. Although she remained busy with her family and their frequent moves, she found time to pursue her passions for playing the piano, singing in choruses and choirs, sewing and reading on topics from physics and astronomy to foreign languages and literature. Through hard work and encouragement, she was able to complete her college degree in 1994, 50 years "late."
She was always well-red, well-spoken, caring, generous and very funny. Her husband, H.P. Wood, died in 2006.
She is survived by their five children: Alive and Guy Snyder of Portland, OR; Mary and Michael Cornog of Nelson, N.H; Eleanor and John Ramage of San Antonio, TX; Peter Wood of Portland, OR; and Betsy and John Weaver of Quarryville, PA. She also leaves eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, her brother Joe and Pris Williamson, sister-in-law Suze and Rod Brown, brother-in-law Tom and Barbara Wood along with several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. All will miss her deeply.
The family thanks the staffs of Merrill Gardens and Azalea Cottage for the thoughtful care they gave her, and thanks VITAS Hospice for their attention to and appreciation of her. The family also thanks the members of St. Francis Episcopal Church who continued to include her when she could no longer attend services.
According to her wishes, she will be cremated and interred in Muncy, PA, at a later date, alongside her beloved husband.
Remembrances can be sent c/o Eleanor Ramage, 121 Kennedy Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78209 and contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
