Amadio was a proud man who loved to engage in political analysis and debate. He instilled confidence in his children and always encouraged them to pursue education. During his retirement years, he and Maria enjoyed fishing and yard sales.
In addition to his wife, Amadio's surviving family includes son, Amadeo Cantu, Jr., his wife Gloria and son Matthew; and four daughters, Raquel Cantu and son, Amadeo Cantu Trevino; Dolores Cantu Suarez, her husband Adolph Suarez, and children Adolph Jr., Michael and Anesa; Rosario Cantu Sanchez, her husband John Sanchez and children, Maria Cristina, Andrea and Juan Gabriel; and Hilda Cantu Montoy, and husband Jorge Montoy and children, Juan Carlos, Jorge and Maricela; sister, Sofia Leal and many nephews and nieces.
Amadio endured various illnesses, but his spirit and feistiness were ever present. Days before, he brought smiles to his family when he said, "I want to live."
With all his struggles, Amadio raised a family whom he described as a "wonderful" family rich in values - loyalty, strength, integrity and love of family. This was particularly demonstrated in Amadio's last day when all his children and grandchildren gathered around him to share in laughter and to shed tears. His spirit lives in his family.
