Our Lord welcomed his beautiful, compassionate, courageous and loving daughter, Amparo (Amp) G. Hernandez, on April 21, 2016, into his loving arms. After a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis, Amp departed this world peacefully at home with her loving family and friends.
Amp was born to Carrie Garcia and Alfredo Garcia on January 25, 1937. She was the second of three girls, Nina San Miguel and Gloria Jimenez. Shortly after graduating from Brackettville High School she married a soon to be officer in the US Army. In June of 1957, she married Lieutenant Victor M. Hernandez, Jr., and had two children: David Hernandez and Teresa Lopez.
Amp dedicated the first 24 years of marriage to supporting her husband's military career. During this time frame, three years were spent geographically separated from her husband and rearing her children while he was serving duty assignments in South Korea and the Vietnam Conflict.
Upon her husband's retirement from the military, Amp and Vic joined each other in business for 17 years as business partners with the Prudential Insurance Company.
Amp was very devoted to our Lord and to all the church communities that she and Vic lived in throughout their years of travel. Once the moves stopped, she dedicated herself to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Guadalupanas and member of a prayer and catechism group.
What gave Amp the greatest joy was being a very close part of all her grandchildren's lives. She attended as many musical, athletic, academic, and familial events as possible and never wavered in her love and devotion to God, husband and family. She was there selflessly for everyone. Amp was preceded in death by her parents, Carrie and Alfredo Garcia; her sister, Nina San Miguel; and her in-laws, Otila and Victor M. Hernandez.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Victor M. Hernandez, Jr., son, David Hernandez (Carolyn) and her daughter, Teresa Lopez (Blake) and beloved nephew, Godson Carlos San Miguel (Pam); grandchildren, Marla, Alyssa (Carl), Lynette (Shawndon), Gabriella, Anthony, Cosette and Armand; her sister, Gloria and her husband Hector Jimenez and their child Valerie Peyer (Tony); her deceased sister's family, husband Juan San Miguel and their children Alma Luna (Robert, deceased), Rosie Perez (Hector), Juanita Ann Hall (Clint), Juan San Miguel Jr. (Leonie); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 from 6:00-7:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
