Angelina Fierros Fernandez at the accomplished age of 100 fulfilled her time on earth. On October 30, 2020 Angelina, affectionately known as "Lillie" heard her name called into the peace and light of God's heavenly kingdom. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Rodolfo Fernandez Sr. She is survived by her children, Rudy Fernandez Jr., Rebecca F. Pena, Robert Fernandez, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her sister Margaret Martinez, sister-in-law Elisa Fernandez and numerous extended family and friends who loved her dearly.
Ms. Fernandez was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 13, 1920. At a very young age she became a motherly figure to her siblings which developed her strength and resilience in life. She only had an elementary education but, she persevered and attended Alamo Beauty College and became a licensed working beautician. Soon after, she became a wife to her husband Mr. Fernandez of 52 years; during their marriage she became a mother of her three children and for a short-time, she was an owner of her beauty shop.
Lillie took pride in both her home and personal appearance; she could be described as a fashionably smart dresser. She was known for her exceptional cooking and loved achieving just the right flavor in her various specialty dishes such as: albondigas, chicken mole, gorditas, her signature potato salad and hand-made (on her knee) bunuelos. Although Lillie didn't drive a vehicle, it didn't stop her from partaking in another one of her favorite hobbies, shopping. Instead it kept her physically active because she was a fast-paced walker and would often ride the city bus to enjoy shopping downtown and the nearby mall.
Lillie was an active member of Pollard Memorial United Methodist Church. She participated in bible study, quilting circles and cooking for various church events. She loved playing badminton, dominos, toma todo, bunco, volleyball and table tennis. Lillie took pleasure in caring for her beautiful plants and had a neat and tailored yard; she mowed her lawn up to the age of 90. Lillie was quick witted well through her 90s and her love of chocolate cake and chocolate candies remained, even three weeks prior to her transition.
Throughout her life Lillie loved spending time with her husband, children and sisters and she thoroughly enjoyed her grand-parenting years. Lillie will live in our hearts, fond memories and will be immensely missed. She was truly one-of-a-kind.
