

Anna Rose Haile Kanning was born July 28, 1937, in Knippa, TX to William G. and Jane Anna Haile and left this earth January 19, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Mary Jane, Freda and Jacque, her brother Billy and sons-in-law Tim Hawley and Mike Zezula.
Anna Rose is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Ed Kanning, and their beloved dog, Abby. Also survived by her children Joan Zezula, Donna (Rick) Blackburn, Stephanie Hawley and Greg (Rhondie) Kanning, grandchildren Ryan (Julie) Whaley, Kaitlin (Matt) Bright, Danielle (Johnathon) Soza, Noah Blackburn, TJ (Lindsey) Hawley, Courtney (Logan Allen) Hawley and Rebekah, Jordan and Jakob Huron, great grandchildren Rylie Rose and Kennedy Kate Bright, Johnathon Edward and Anneberlin Rose Soza, Timmy and Parker Hawley and Danica and Declan Allen and numerous nieces and nephews.
Anna Rose graduated from Jefferson High School in 1955 and then attended Our Lady of the Lake University where she earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees of Library Science and a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling. She worked in numerous libraries in San Antonio and retired as Director of Libraries from Our Lady of the Lake University Library system after 30+ years of service. Upon retirement, Ed and Anna Rose moved to their hill country home in Tarpley, TX.
SERVICES
Services will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3303 Urban Crest, San Antonio, TX, 78209. Visitation will start at 5:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024. The funeral mass will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday February 16, 2024, followed by a reception in the church Family Center. There will be a private burial for the family at a later date.
