Anna Marie Martinez, age 64, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on September 24, 1950 in San Antonio, to Rodolfo and Benigna Partida. She was a dedicated mother and loving grandmother. Anna often commented on how much she loved and was proud of her two sons, "the boys", and enjoyed spending time with her six grandchildren, whom she affectionately referred to as her "babies". She worked for over 30 years as a hair stylist and greatly enjoyed the daily camaraderie with her customers and co-workers.
Anna had a special place in her heart for her pet dogs. In previous years, she shared her love of canines and the joy they bring by volunteering with a local therapy program that allowed for hospital patients to interact with local dogs in order to help the patients heal and recover more quickly. Anna's faith in our Lord Jesus Christ was a very special gift. She often read Bible Scripture and had a talent for sharing her knowledge by evangelizing through acts of kindness and love towards her family, friends and her church community.
Above all, Anna was an extremely independent woman and a pillar of strength. As a single-mom she raised her two sons, flourished at her career and maintained a loving and immaculate household. For nearly eleven years she bravely battled ovarian cancer, facing each new treatment with valor. In her last months she always emphasized that she did not lose to cancer but rather she beat it for over a decade.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her longtime companion Harvey Johle; her sons, Michael Martinez-Partida and wife Martha, Ryan Martinez and wife Toni; grandchildren: Tyler, Austin, Leana, Miguel, Martha and Marianna; sisters, Maureen Berryman and husband Delbert, Evelyn Casillas and husband Alfred; brothers, Jeff Partida and wife Marta, Frank Partida and wife Rosemary; half-sister Michelle Partida and husband Chris, half-brothers Patrick Partida and fiance Liz and Rodrick Partida and wife Tuesday; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
