Anne Beverly Linett Roth, aged 95, died the morning of Saturday, March 11, 2017 among family and loving caregivers at her home in Austin, Texas. She was born on November 28, 1921, in Albany, New York to Bessie Linett and raised by her beloved bubbe Celia Goldberg. Anne is survived by her husband, Joel Roth; her children, Bennett, Marc, Eric, and Susan; her grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, and Alan; and her daughters-in-law, Maria Roth, Marianne Roth, and Kim Banda. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Celia Goldberg. Always independent and driven, Anne excelled in her studies, receiving her registered professional nursing license from the King's County Hospital School of Nursing in 1944, and graduating from New York University in 1951 with a B.S. and M.A. in the School of Education. She was a member of the military, serving in both the Army and Air Force between 1945 and 1959 as a flight nurse with the rank of Captain. While stationed at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, she met her future husband, Dr. Joel Leonard Roth, to whom she has been married for almost six decades. After raising her four children, Anne served with distinction for 15 years as a school nurse for the North East Independent School District in San Antonio. Her dedication, humor, and nursing skills are remembered to this day. Anne enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and, to the delight of her family and friends, loved baking and cooking. She was never without a book, and often read more than one at a time. She was a member of the Jewish chapel at Ft. Sam Houston and Congregation Agudas Achim in San Antonio, and taught her children the values and traditions of Jewish life. Above all, Anne valued education and she instilled this value in her children and grandchildren. Ann was fond of singing the Yiddish song "Oyfn Pripetchik" (At the Hearth) to her children. The first verse translates to "In the little hearth flickers a little flame, warmth spreads through the house, and the rabbi teaches little children the Hebrew aleph-bet. Anne brought warmth and comfort and learning to all around her. The Roth family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at Kindred Hospice in Austin, especially the nursing staff, and to all of the caregivers who filled her home with life, love, laughter.
