Tony led a life to be admired. Even with very limited formal education, he was able to achieve so much and more importantly, be a positive influence across four generations. Tony started working at a young age with his father, Jesus at Cavazos Produce Company as a commercial fruit and vegetable distributor. He continued this employment from his adolescent years into his young adulthood. Tony went on to become a Maintenance Technician for Union Pine Apartments from 1968 to 1977. Tony would continue his career in the petroleum industry having been employed with Ulysses Irrigation Pipe Company from 1979 to 1983, to Hanes Pipeline Company from 1983 to 1995; and lastly, with Flint/Elkorn Pipeline Company from 1995 to 1998, where he retired in '98.
Tony's appearance in public was very important. He would always say to dress well because appearance mattered. He was always punctual with time as he did not like to be in a hurry or be late. His favorite saying was “Hay mas tiempo que vida” meaning “There’s more time than life.” Tony was an early riser and spent most of his time outside or driving around town. He loved meeting with friends to share a cup of coffee. Tony also loved keys; he had a key for everything and anything.
Tony will be remembered for the love he shared with his children and grandchildren, but especially his grandchildren; they were his whole life. As a young boy Tony was an excellent dice player and played for money with the neighborhood kids. He was a professional at spinning tops and Yo-Yo's, and he loved teaching his kids and grandkids how to play checkers. Many gatherings were enjoyed with fun and laughter with a good game of pool or poker. Anytime the music started, he would be the first one dancing. He loved dancing with anyone who wanted to join in. Tony was also a storyteller; once he had your ear, you were stuck for hours and hours listening. Mostly, he was a generous man. He would give to anyone in need. His heart was full of love and happiness.
