Beloved brothers and sisters, we gather in the light of our Lord to celebrate the life and homegoing of a precious jewel in our midst, Sister Atanacia "Tane" Ponce Casillas. Born on the fifteenth day of July in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and thirty-one, in the humble town of Martindale, Texas, Sister Tane was a beacon of love and strength, a testament to the unwavering spirit of a well-lived life. On the twenty-third day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-four, the good Lord called
Sister Tane home from San Antonio, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of joy and devotion.
Sister Tane, a selfless woman of faith, walked this earth for ninety-three years, touching lives with her kindness and her humor. She was a woman who lived by the scripture with her faith as unshakeable as the mighty oak. The good Lord blessed her with a large and loving family. Her beloved husband of seventy-two years, Brother Arturo S. Casillas, stood by her side in a partnership that was a testament to true love and devotion.
Their union was blessed with many children. A loving mother to Sylvia Casillas-Ramirez, Arthur Robert Casillas (Gloria), Albert Casillas (Lisa), Eric Casillas (Belinda), Sonya Casillas, Ronnie Casillas, Sandra Casillas (Bea), Tammy Casillas (Thomas), and Genevie Casillas (CJ), and a loving grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great- grandmother to numerous grandchildren, she raised them with an abundance of love and a firm hand guided by the Good Book. Though her son Arthur Robert Casillas was called home before her, we find comfort knowing they are now reunited in the eternal embrace of our Savior. Sister Tane was also preceded in death by her father Isidoro Ponce, her mother Rafaela Ponce, her grandsons, SPC Ronald P Casillas Jr. and Jagger Munoz, and her great-grandson Isaiah Sanders.Sister Tane is survived by her siblings, Francis (Joe), Juan (Alicia - deceased), Mary (Raymond - deceased), Jesse (Adriana), and Josie (Crescencio – deceased).
As we bid farewell to Sister Tane, let us not dwell on the sorrow of her departure, but rather celebrate the blessed life she led. Let us honor her memory by living as she did, with hearts full of love and unshakeable faith. Sister Tane's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but her spirit lives in the hearts of those she touched.
In the days to come, let us all carry Sister Tane's legacy forward. Let us share her stories, her wisdom, and her humor, so that the warmth of her spirit continues to shine brightly in this world. And when the winds of life blow fiercely, let us remember Sister Tane, a woman of unwavering faith and boundless love, who now rests in the glorious presence of our Lord. Amen.
