

Atanacio Muñiz Ybarra was born on May 2, 1933, in Edinburg, Texas, to Agustin Ybarra and Celsa Munis Ybarra. A hardworking and devoted family man, Atanacio built a life centered on perseverance, faith, and love.
On February 28, 1954, he married the love of his life, Marina Colchado Velasquez. Together, they shared over 60 beautiful years of marriage and built a legacy rooted in family and dedication.
Throughout his life, Atanacio pursued various business ventures that took him and his family across the country, including California and Washington, as well as cities such as Laredo and Lubbock, before ultimately settling in San Antonio, Texas. He was a proud entrepreneur and owner of Ybarra’s Tortilla Factory in Lubbock, a thrift store in Laredo, and the Clothing Care Center on West Martin Street in San Antonio.
Atanacio enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved shooting pool, watching classic Western movies and game shows, and most of all, spending time with his family. He was known for his unwavering commitment to ensuring his loved ones were always cared for.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marina Colchado Velasquez Ybarra; his parents, Agustin and Celsa Munis Ybarra; his brothers, Jose Alberto M. Ybarra, Pedro M. Ybarra, Felipe M. Ybarra, Francisco M. Ybarra, and Juan M. Ybarra; and his sister, Amalia “Molly” Ybarra Ross.
He is survived by his loving children: daughters Elizabeth Ybarra Flores and Sara Ybarra Aranda (Armando), and sons Antonio Velasquez Ybarra and Felipe Velasquez Ybarra (Josie); grandchildren: Melanie Aranda Tawil (Fredrick), Gabriella Ybarra Posey (Mackenzie), Cristina Flores Woodward (Joshua), Richard Ybarra, Phillip Ybarra, Jr. (Helen), Armando Aranda III, Roland Flores Jr. (April), and Andrew Flores; great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Anne Tawil, Britney Ybarra, Norma Ybarra, Myra Ybarra Posey, Zoey Ybarra Posey, Heather Flores Woodward, Audrey Flores Woodward, Adrian Ybarra, Gabriel Flores, John Paul Tawil, Eric Ybarra, and Phillip Ybarra III; great-great-grandchildren: Mia Ybarra, Madelyn Ybarra, Jazaley Ybarra Rivera, Estevan Ybarra, and Aiden Ybarra.
Atanacio Muñiz Ybarra passed away on March 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the San Antonio Food Bank in his honor to help feed and nourish those that are in need of food resources.
