

Barbara was born on August 9, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas. She was the eldest daughter of Floyd and Ivy Cordova. In 1951 Barbara graduated from Edison High School in San Antonio, Texas. Barbara went on to graduate from Corpus Christi State University with a Biology degree as well as a teaching certificate. She worked as a Life Science teacher for a number of years at Hamlin Junior High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she lived with her husband Leonard Weldon Howard (aka“Blue”) and her 3 children for many years. After teaching, Barbara obtained her Master’s Degree in Petroleum Geology from what is now known as Corpus Christi A&M University. Afterwards Barbara worked with her husband at Howard Resources, an independent petroleum company.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Ivy and Floyd Cordova and her husband of 60 years Leonard W. Howard. She is also survived by her sisters, Katherine Scheppler and Nancy Teilmann, both of San Antonio, her daughter, Patricia Riggs (Billy) of Dripping Springs, Texas and 2 sons: Dana W. Howard (Roxanne) of Stockdale, Texas and Corey W. Howard (Julie) of Corpus Christi, Texas. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, plus several nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Barbara loved learning new things, traveling and gardening. She and her husband were members of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Corpus Christi, Texas for many years.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial Park 1701 Austin Highway San Antonio, Texas, starting 11 am on Thursday, November 20, 2025, with funeral services to follow immediately afterward.
