B. Eloise Semegran, age 72, passed away May 24, 2017. She was born in Ada, Oklahoma in 1944 but grew up in Midwest City, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Midwest City High School. She married Michael D. Semegran in 1968 and raised two children, Scott and Sheryl. She was a proud military wife for 24 years, stationed in Sacramento, CA, Panama Canal Zone, Montgomery, AL, and San Antonio, TX (twice). She began a career later in life at USAA and worked for 16 years as an Insurance Adjuster.
Eloise was kind and generous; these two words described her best. She was a gentle soul with a loving heart, always willing to talk to family, friends, or people she would serendipitously meet out and about. She wanted to make friends wherever she went. For instance, she used to enjoy eating lunch at Earl Abel's Restaurant and once spotted an elderly woman, 20 or 30 years her elder, eating alone. She asked if she could join her and they quickly became friends. They enjoyed each other's company from then on, meeting at Earl Abel's or other places around San Antonio. She befriended patrons and employees at North Star Mall, just as interested in making friends as shopping. Eloise saw the good in everybody and enjoyed connecting to people through conversation. She did not have a mean bone in her body; kindness radiated from her.
She loved music, fashion, and art, and was an avid collector of all three. She also had an affinity for Cairn Terriers and West Highland Terriers and was a loving pet owner her entire life. The dogs she owned and loved included Happy, Jester, Dusty, Lucy, and Sunnie. Her passion in her later years was her backyard, which she transformed from a bare, dirt patch when her home was first built into a lush paradise of flowers, greenery, and bird feeders. She enjoyed watching her dogs frolic in her yard while wild birds ate and bathed, wind chimes singing in the breeze. Her backyard was her happy place.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Russell and husband Chris, Helotes, TX; son, Scott Semegran and wife Lori, Austin, TX; grandchildren, Haley Russell, Mia Ryan Semegran, Sophia Semegran, Ahnika Thornhill, and Colin Thornhill; niece, Traci O'Sullivan; nephews, Chad Vaden and Curtis Vaden. She was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Col. Michael D. Semegran, U.S. Air Force, Retired; brother, Al Joe Vaden, Jr., Greenwich, CT; mother, Bebe Nutty and husband, Jean, Oklahoma City, OK; and father, Alfred Joe Vaden, Midwest City, OK.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX 78232 with Reverend Donald C. Ofsdahl officiating. As an expression of sympathy for friends near and far, memorial contributions should be made in the form of hugs or kind words to the ones they love, whether it be towards family, friends, or anyone in need.
