Belta Linda Guerra (Marks), age 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by her 3 children in San Antonio, Texas on January 3, 2025. She was born June 16, 1929, as the first child to Beatriz and Adam Marks, in Rio Grande City, Starr County, Texas. Her childhood years were spent in the Rio Grande Valley where she helped her mother care for her 5 brothers and sisters until she graduated from Rio Grande City High School as valedictorian in 1947. In May of 1948, she married her first and only love, Arturo Guerra, after he returned from the World War II European theater. Following their marriage, they moved to Austin, Texas, before starting a more than 30-year adventure together traveling the world and raising their family. She shared a rich and full life with her husband and 3 children across 5 continents, 9 countries, from Ecuador to Yugoslavia, and as far as Tunisia to Tonga. Belta, and her husband eventually settled down back in the Rio Grande Valley where they celebrated 60 years of marriage together. In her later years, she cherished these memories and regaled loved ones with stories of their travels together. She found joy in the simple pleasures of learning about different cultures, traditions, and discovering each country's specialties, as well as furthering her interests of sewing, cooking, gardening, and the study of finance and medicine.
She is preceded in death by Arturo Guerra (husband), Beatriz Marks (mother), Adam Marks (father), Adan Marks (brother), Neto Marks (brother), Rodolfo Marks (brother), Estrella Pena (sister), and America Conaulty (sister).
She is survived by her three children, Ysleta Northam, Cybre Arturo Guerra, and Gina Espinoza, and one grandson, Nicholas Espinoza.
Her family expresses their gratitude for the comfort, love, and support offered to her during her end-of-life care by Accentcare and Gentiva Hospice Agencies.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, January 27, 2025, at 11:00 am at Porter Loring Mortuary North at 2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, Tx 78232; followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm. Immediately following will be the interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, pavilion number 4.
