

Ben Milam Griffith, 90, passed away July 23, 2010. Born March 6, 1920 to Mae Hester and Charles M. Griffith Sr. in San Antonio, Texas.
A 1938 graduate of Brackenridge High School, Griffith also attended Draughon's Business College, San Antonio College, Trinity University, and The University of Texas.
He served in the Armed Services from 1942-1946 and again from 1951-1952. Moving into Civil Service, he served 35 years at Kelly AFB. During that time, he served 20 years as Executive Assistant to the Commander working with eight commanding generals of the San Antonio Air Logistics Center and was known as "Mr. Kelly".
He was twice presented the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the highest awarded to a civilian government employee by a major command. Ben was local and state President of the Air Force Association and was offered position of National President. Griffith was given the title of "Air Force Man of the Year" and received numerous other awards and honors.
Following his retirement from Kelly, he worked as Assistant to the President at SACU for a period of time.
Ben is preceded in death by his mother and father, 5 sisters and 1 brother; as well as his great-grandson, David Wolf; niece, Carolyn Wallace; and nephew, Grant Meadows.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Lou Powell; two daughters, Debbie Jess McAngus and Patsy Ann Skeels; five grandchildren, Amy McAngus, Jody McAngus Clippinger, Carrie McAngus Morin, Teri Skeels O'Neal, Sharon Skeels Wolf; five great-grandchildren, Brooks Morin, Taylor and Trent O'Neal; Leslie Wolf Cowey, and Jack Wolf; and two great-great grandsons, Kyler and Chase Cowey. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
Ben formerly attended Sunset Ridge Church of Christ, serving as an Elder and at the time of death was a member of Northside Church of Christ.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Porter Loring on McCullough.
