Berney was born on July 7, 1911 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Louisville Medical School, after which he served in the military during World War II.
After his military service he settled in San Antonio, Texas where he married Vera Sugarman, and had two sons, Edward and Lenard. Berney was a prominent allergist in San Antonio for many years and was also an avid tennis player and supporter of tennis in Texas.
He will be remembered by his patients, family and friends for his unwavering support and care, his abundant energy that lasted well into his 90's, his wonderful sense of humor, and the shining example he set in all facets of life.
Berney was preceded in death by his wife Vera, and his son, Lenard.
He is survived by his son, Edward Fein; grandsons, Eric Fein and wife, Cathy and Cory Fein and wife, Beth; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jack, Samantha, Wayne and Alex; and several nieces and nephews.
