

Bernard Reyes, 89, began his journey to heaven on Friday, May 29, 2015 in the company of his three children. “Bernie” as he was known by many was born on February 12, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas. At the tender age of 18, Bernie entered the U.S. Army and served in the 99th Infantry Division during WW II. Staff Sergeant Bernie fought in the battle of the Ardennes Forrest, the Rhineland and the Central European Campaign.Bernie met and married the love of his life, Lupita Prince Reyes. In 1957 he moved his young family to Brownsville to continue his career as a printer and lithographer, where he lived until his passing. Bernie is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and his wife of 59 years. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Barbara (Roy) Anzaldua, Bernard (Tracey) Reyes, and Judith (Juan) Gavito, 10 grandchildren, Roy Anzaldua Jr., Jennifer Anzaldua, Jessica (Robert) Naranjo, Bernard (Roxy) Anzaldua, Tracie L. Reyes, Lindsey N. Reyes, Christopher A. Reyes, Emma Strother, Elizabeth Strother and Lucy Strother; 6 great-grandchildren, Mercedes Anzaldua, Victoria Anzaldua, Francisco Castillo, Barbara Castillo, Jessica Naranjo and Bernard Lucas Anzaldua; brother, Luis (Alice) Reyes, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. A funeral mass be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. Thursday June 4, 2015 at Prince of Peace Catholic church with Rev. Msgr. Patrick Cronin officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with U.S. Army military honors.
