She attended Alvin Junior College and became a respiratory therapist. On November 3, 1949 she married her soul mate, William Otis Summers. Bernice retired after 14 years to concentrate on her family.
She was a past Matron to the Alvin Chapter 15 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William O. (Bill) Summers; sons, Michael A. Summers and William L. (W.L.) Summers; father, Roscoe S. Ward; mother, L. Frances Ward; brothers, Lewis J. (Happy) Ward and Buddy L. Ward and sister's-in-law, Anita Ward and Frances Ward.
Bernice is survived by her son, Richard A. Summers; brother, Edward E. Ward and sister, Helen Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakwood Baptist Church or Vista Hospice in Lubbock, Texas.
