

“Serve God” were the words she would consistently say to encourage everyone she would meet. Bertha Lopez Garcia was born on October 28, 1923 in Las Cruces, New Mexico and received her promotion into the presence of God on February 9, 2025.
In the 1930’s and 40’s, she helped her father pastor churches in Greeley, Colorado and Los Angeles, California. After graduating from and teaching at Latin American Bible Institute, her ministry continued as an interpreter for an evangelistic team. In 1947, she married the love of her life, Raul C. Garcia and, together, they planted Sendero Assembly of God (San Antonio) in 1950, where they pastored for 66 years. As an ordained minister, Reverend Bertha Garcia, was an anointed Bible teacher, an accomplished musician (piano and accordion), and a powerful prayer warrior. She loved her family, her church, her friends and especially her Lord Jesus Christ. Her legacy of faith is passed on to her four children, who all serve in full-time ministry.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Raul C. Garcia. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Augustin and Maria Val Lopez, her sister Demetria Valdez, and her brothers Isidro Lopez and Edmond Lopez.
She is survived by her children Marleen (Philip) Pedroza, Sandy (Roger) Sanchez, Roy (Mari) Garcia, and Randy (Brenda) Garcia. She is also survived by her grandchildren Dwayne (Michelle) Pedroza, Darren (Kim) Pedroza, Marq (Nina) Sanchez, Brandon (Sarah) Sanchez, Candyce (Tim) Hyslip, Baruch (Taylor) Garcia, Joshua (Christina) Garcia, Benjamin (Suany) Garcia, Natanya Garcia, Randall Sean (Selina) Garcia, Matthew (Jesika) Garcia, Brittany (Luis) Rodriguez, Shalyse Garcia, and Isaiah (Melissa) Castillo.
She is also survived by her great grandchildren Lyndsey (John) Williamson, Grant Pedroza, Landry (Olivia) Pedroza, Kathryn Pedroza, Jonah Pedroza, John Tate, Caleb Tate, Rebekah Tate, Sarah (Abe) Dillon, Corban Sanchez, Ava Sanchez, Hannah Sanchez, Aaron (Sierra) Hyslip, Isaac Hyslip, Josiah Hyslip, Elianna Hyslip, Aurelle Hyslip, Isabella Garcia, Randall Cole Garcia, Luis Rodriguez Jr., Olivia Rodriguez, Riley Garcia, Cameron Vasquez, Major Garcia, Annaceli Garcia, Maliah Garcia, Raeanne Garcia, Aleena Castillo, and Eliana Garcia.
And 5 great, great grandchildren Forrest Williamson, Brynlee Williamson, Aaron T. Hyslip, Eden Dillon and Casey Tate.
She is also survived by her sisters, Tillie Garcia, Eva Valdez, and Elizabeth Valencia and brothers Augustin V. Lopez and Jesse Lopez.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 27th @ 7:00 PM at Sendero Church, 5408 Daughtry Rd. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 28th @ 9:00 AM at Sendero Church, followed by interment at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Bertha Garcia had a big heart for missions. For that reason, in lieu of flowers, we ask that you would donate to the missions fund at Sendero Church, Three:16 Church, Baruch HaShem Messianic Congregation, and/or Berean Pathway Ministries.
