

Betty was preceded in death by her parents. Betty married Bill Carpenter in 1947 in Austin. He preceded her in death in 2000. Also preceding her in death was her brother Ray Renner and sister Jerry Renner Lee.Betty and Bill both graduated from Lamesa High School in 1943. She attended Texas Tech University, receiving a BS degree in Home Economics in 1947. She taught Home Economics, which was an extension of her love of sewing and cooking. Her home was always open to anyone who came along and the coffee pot was always on. Betty’s life-long passions were her family, her faith and her friends. Her loving spirit and kind nature attracted people her whole life.
Betty and Bill enjoyed spending summers in Ruidoso, the Pecos Canyon and other New Mexico places. They maintained life-long friendships in San Angelo, Quanah, San Antonio, and West Texas.
Betty was a member of First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio where she served as President of the Presbyterian Women. She lived that faith everyday. Betty volunteered at House of Neighborly Service, teaching less fortunate women to sew. Betty loved sports and was most passionate about the Spurs.
Betty is survived by her sister-in-law Cathy Renner, brother-in-law Leo Lee and brother Don Renner and his wife Winona. Betty is survived by her 5 children: Kirby Carpenter (Sylvia) of San Antonio, Kay Rice (Scott) of Albuquerque, NM, Gary Carpenter (Marian) of Lincoln, NM, Julie Rigsby (Tom) of Ruidoso, NM and Lee Anne Carpenter (Scott Rothe) of Austin. 18 grandchildren Ben Carpenter (Tammy), Blake Carpenter (Michaela Hermann), Malcolm Torres and Spencer Torres; Connor Rice (Ellie Werenko), Alden Gilligan (Patrick), and Logan Rice (Jackie Truitt); Rachel Batenhorst (Jacob), Abby Carpenter, Emily Slyter (Chase), and Blair Carpenter (Dean Rieger); Kelly Johnson (Brandon), Allison Rigsby, Jacob Rigsby (Nikki) and Matthew Rigsby; Geoffrey Gernsbacher (Brittney), Sarah Gernsbacher and Katie Gernsbacher. 14 great-grandchildren Piper and Cormac Rice, Rylan and Neala Gillligan, Jillian Johnson, Ella and Ben Batenhorst, Everleigh and Sawyer Slyter, Mabrey, Miles and Margo Johnson, Olivia and Addison Gernsbacher. Also, Betty was survived by many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, December 15, First Presbyterian Church 404 N. Alamo St., San Antonio, with a reception to follow.
