Betty graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1949. In 1951, she married her first and only true love, Arnold Gold, a handsome young man and future highly successful auto industry executive. Betty was a very supportive wife who admired her husband and whose love and devotion to him was truly his greatest blessing in life. Early in their marriage, Betty worked at Kelly AFB in the Air Force Security Service Area to help their young family financially. Throughout Arnold's career, she was his most valued advisor, behind the scene "chief of staff" and "entertainer-in-chief". But, her greatest accomplishments in their marriage were her role as the homemaker and the rearing of their four sons. Betty and Arnold travelled extensively and lived in New Orleans, LA for a period of time as the part-owner/operator of Benson-Gold Chevrolet.
Betty was a strong, sharp-witted, independent person with a gift for writing and an accomplished artist. She was affectionately known as Betty Jean to her husband, Bette to her friends, Nana Bet to her grandchildren and just, Mom, to her sons. Although she endured many health issues in the latter stages of her life, she enjoyed life to its fullest, especially her frequent gambling jaunts to Las Vegas with her best friend Donette Davis and entertaining family and friends at home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, her parents, Minnie and Keefe and her sister, Patty. Betty is survived by her sons: Ron (Carolyn Fralix), Steven (Alice), Todd (Stella) and Danny; grandchildren: Grant, Garrett (Vanessa), Cole Mirek, Matt, Leslie (John), Amber Holcomb-Keene, Sean Adams, and Ian; great grandchildren: Holden Keene, Quentin Adams and Dylan Hernandez. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn, and her younger brother, Gary (Marsha), plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 10:00 AM, in the Wulfe Sanctuary at Temple Beth-El, 211 Belknap Place, San Antonio, Texas with interment to follow at Beth-El Memorial Park, Austin Highway.
