

Betty Redus, age 87 of Wichita Falls Texas, formally of Somerset Texas, went to be with the Lord on 1 Feb 2016. Betty was born on 10 April 1928 in San Antonio Texas. After graduating from James Bowie High School she earned her Nursing degree and had a very rewarding 20 year career working in labor & delivery and the ER. She retired from nursing after moving to Germany as a Military Spouse and was very involved with the Military Counsel of Catholic Women and working with special needs children. After moving to Devine Texas she managed the VFW post and was also president of the VFW Lady's Auxilliary. While living in Devine she was also involved in fund raising for Cancer Aid and Research and in 1976 organized a large benefit concert that raised significant funds for the American Cancer Society. After moving to Somerset Texas she became very active in local politics and served as the Democratic precinct chair for Somerset. She also served as election judge for the Somerset precinct for several years. For her service to the community, the Somerset Police station was named in her honor as the “Betty Redus Law Enforcement Center”. She also wrote a weekly newspaper column for the Devine Newspaper called "Around Somerset". For her years of selfless service to the Democratic Party Betty was awarded the Jim Bode Lifetime Achievement Award from the Democratic party of San Antonio. Betty loved cooking, collecting Angels, serving the community, and making people laugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie Redus Sr, and her brothers Louis and Franklin Keilman. She is survived by her sisters Marie Keilman and Darlene Shields, sons: Roland Gass and Jimmie Redus Jr., daughter Vanessa Martin, her 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 9, 2016 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home 1701 Austin Highway San Antonio, Texas 78218. Graveside Services will take place at 11:00am Wednesday February 10, 2016 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road San Antonio, Texas 78209.
