

Beverly Gray (Newton) Gordon was born October 2, 1932, to William Floyd Newton and Annie Lucille (Gray) Newton in Tinsman, AR. She lived in the Tinsman area with her family until the age of 11 when the family moved to Little Rock, AR. She graduated from Central High School in 1951. That summer she went to a job fair and received a great opportunity to go to work for Ma Bell which much later became AT&T. She received many accommodations and was chosen to be the tour leader when the company would have visitors.
She married her husband of almost 51 years, John Brown Gordon Jr. on June 13, 1957. They then welcomed their first daughter, Tonna Gail Gordon on July 5, 1958. Later, John's work took him to Memphis, TN. Beverly's job was able to transfer her, and it was there that they welcomed their second daughter Melanie Lynn Gordon on May 26, 1965. Soon after Beverly decided to stay home with two daughters and become a housewife.
In 1969 John got a job with Belwood Manufacturing as a salesman and the family moved to Huntsville AL. They lived close to Beverly's church Huntsville Seventh Day Adventist Church where she volunteered countless hours to causes such as her Dorcus work and she also served on committees such as the pastor parish relations committee.
In 1976 a promotion moved the family to Ackerman, MS. Beverly did not have a church close so she threw herself into the community. Joining the Busy Bee's and the Ackerman United Methodist Church. Tonna finished up high school and went to college in Little Rock, AR and Melanie started in 5th grade. Beverly and John kept busy as band chaperons and then later as drivers of the equipment van.
During this time Beverly was church secretary through 5 Methodist preachers, quite a long time. Later she went to work for Dr. Bryant’s dental office. She also worked at the nursing home and did private care giving and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.It was sometime after her John’s stroke she decided to stay home with him and care for him. Thereafter they spent their winter months in San Antonio, TX and after her his death in 2008 Beverly continued until she made the move permanent in 2014.
Beverly Gordon was preceded in death by her husband, John Brown Gordon Jr.; her parents, William Floyd Newton and Lucille Newton; and one brother, Floyd Lamar Newton. She left behind two daughters, Tonna (Bob) Graydon of San Antonio, TX and Melanie (Danny) Snow of Columbus, MS; two granddaughters, Lynna (Jimmy) Forrester and Alene Hightower (Chris Manganelli); two great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Donegan and Micah Donegan; and three siblings, James Buddy (LaVonne) Newton, Annie Lloyd, and Sandra Kay (Riley) Ogden.
A private family ceremony will take place at a later time. Donations to any Dementia or Alzheimer’s association of your choice or ASPCA can be made in her memory if you wish.
