

Judge Bill M. White born in Abilene, Texas on February 11, 1932 of San Antonio, died Monday, July 1, 2002. Judge White graduated from Denton High School in Denton, TX. He received his B.B.A. degree from the University of Texas in Austin, where he also played varsity football for three years. He was a member of the "T" Association and was a member of Kappa Sigma Social fraternity. He attended St. Mary's University School of Law and was licensed to practice law in November, 1961. Graduated from the University of Texas in 1957; graduated from St. Mary's School of Law in 1962. Outstanding Law Alumni Award, 1988. He served as Prosecutor in San Antonio's Municipal Court from February 1962, until December 1963, when he went to work for the Bexar County District Attorney's Office. During the ensuing 15 years as Assistant District Attorney, Judge White was actively prosecuting criminals at all levels in the various County and State District Courts, ultimately becoming Chief of the Felony Division. Governor Dolph Briscoe appointed him Criminal District Attorney in April of 1977. Judge White served as Criminal District Attorney of Bexar County until December 31, 1982. Judge White was elected to the Court of Criminal Appeals of the State of Texas and was sworn in on January 1, 1985; and retired January 1, 1997, serving 12 years on the Court. Judge White was a member of the State Bar of Texas, San Antonio Bar Association, Past President of the Texas District and County Attorney's Association, Past Vice-President of National District Attorney's Association, Past Chairman of Prosecutor's Council of Texas and a member of the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas.
