
Billy Ray (Bill) Wheeler born on June 26, 1927 went to be with our Lord on October 11, 2014 at the age of 87. He graduated from Crosbyton High School in 1944. Bill honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked in the Chiropractic Field in San Antonio and Floresville for a few years before serving as a Quality Control Inspector at Kelly Air Force Base for approximately 20 years. After leaving KAFB he owned and operated the “Corner Ice” convenience store from 1967 to 1978, when he closed the store and moved to the Bulverde/ Spring Branch area. He returned to KAFB as an electrician until his retirement in 1989. Bill was an exceptional sportsman having been a boxer in the Navy, played semi-pro minor league baseball, and continued playing baseball and softball for many years. He also umpired when he wasn’t playing ball. He loved the Spurs and Cowboys and was a devoted fan.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Edith Ann Jourdan Wheeler; son, Jack Wheeler; father, Basil Wheeler; mother, Grace Roberts Wheeler Cannon; stepfather, Weldon Cannon. He is survived by daughter, Dot Conaway; sons, Mel and wife Pat; Jim and wife Theresa; Bill; brother, Kenneth and wife Mary of Brady Tx; 8 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 3:00pm. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
